Contributor Guidelines

How can I contribute to the next issue?
Please email us at contribute@newmountainmag.com with:

  • Your name and location.
  • Story title and your piece (state if it’s a full draft, a section, or a short blurb).
  • Whether your story is a planned adventure, an adventure you’ve already done, or another outdoor experience.
  • Images (if applicable) – please ensure they are high-resolution (min 300dpi), clickable, and do not require extra access.

When are you taking submissions?
We are always on the lookout for new stories and features. New Mountain Magazine publishes twice a year, and submissions are reviewed ahead of each issue.

What are you looking for?
New Mountain isn’t just about adventure storytelling. We welcome a wide range of content, including:

  • Photo essays, long-form stories, interviews, and quirky/alternative pieces.
  • Features beyond personal adventures, such as ghost story-style pieces, film write-ups, brand spotlights, illustration series, and other creative approaches.
  • Stories with authenticity, meaning, and a connection to the outdoors — big or small, traditional or unusual.

Important note: We do not reprint work from other magazines or feature pieces that have already been published elsewhere. That said, there’s always a different way to tell a story, so if your idea has appeared elsewhere, consider how you can bring a fresh perspective.

Word count & image quality:
Written pieces: 500–2,500 words.
Images: high-resolution JPEG/PNG, minimum 300dpi.

What if I’m a brand or organisation?
If you are a brand, shop, or organisation wanting to be featured, please reach out at info@newmountainmag.com with your proposal.
